CMA CGM announces a $250 per TEU peak season surcharge on all Asia–North Europe cargo from 29 December 2025.

Global container shipping leader CMA CGM has announced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on westbound shipments from Asia to Northern Europe, effective 29 December 2025. The charge, set at USD 250 per TEU, aims to support service reliability and operational efficiency during rising demand across the trade route.
The surcharge will apply to cargo loaded at all Asian origin ports, including Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh, and discharged at ports across Northern Europe, spanning the UK to Portugal, Finland and Estonia.
CMA CGM confirmed that the charge will extend to all cargo categories, such as dry containers, out-of-gauge (OOG) shipments, refrigerated cargo, and even paying empty containers.
The company stated that the surcharge will be imposed based on the loading date at origin ports and will remain effective until further notice. It will also apply to freight agreements valid for more than 30 days.
The carrier highlighted that this step is essential to ensure stable and efficient operations during peak cargo flows in the Asia–North Europe corridor, one of the most significant and capacity-intensive shipping lanes in global trade.
