Swan Defence signs MoU with GRSE to advance commercial shipbuilding.

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries (SDHI) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) to enhance India’s indigenous commercial shipbuilding capabilities. The agreement, signed on April 7, 2025, at GRSE Bhavan in Kolkata, aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and underscores a shared commitment to strengthening the nation’s maritime infrastructure.
This partnership is set to focus on the joint construction of commercial vessels and offshore structures, targeting both domestic needs and international markets. By leveraging their combined strengths in design, infrastructure, and execution, SDHI and GRSE aim to build a robust, cost-effective, and scalable commercial shipbuilding model.
The MoU outlines collaboration in areas such as facility sharing, co-development of vessel platforms, and streamlined project management for faster delivery and efficiency. It also emphasises the development of a resilient supply chain and vendor ecosystem through shared procurement and sourcing practices.
A key component of the partnership is the commitment to skill development, aiming to cultivate a workforce capable of supporting the sector’s long-term growth. In addition to ship construction, the companies will collaborate on vessel trials and ship repairs.
The agreement represents a significant step forward in building a sustainable industrial cooperation model that supports innovation, economic growth, and employment in India’s maritime sector.
