CONCOR starts double-stack container train service from NCR to Varnama, enhancing export-import logistics via WDFC.
Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), a state-run rail freight operator, has launched double-stack container train services between the National Capital Region (NCR) and Varnama near Baroda. This new service supports export cargo destined for Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JN Port) in Nhava Sheva, Mumbai.
The inaugural train, originating from Khatuwas and Dadri in NCR, reached CONCOR’s Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminal (GCT) at Varnama on December 21. Positioned along the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), this facility also enables import containers to be consolidated into double-stack trains for Northern India, ensuring faster and sustainable freight transport.
The launch anticipates the completion of the critical 102-km Vaitarana-JN Port stretch of the WDFC, expected by March 2025. Despite the timeline, CMD Sanjay Swarup emphasised CONCOR’s proactive approach, stating that double-stack train operations to Varnama will serve immediate customer needs, reinforcing India’s logistics efficiency.
