Indian Register of Shipping partners with SeaTech to advance green tug design and sustainability in maritime practices.
The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SeaTech Solutions International, a Singapore-based maritime engineering and design company, to enhance sustainability in the maritime sector.
This partnership highlights a global commitment to promoting sustainable maritime practices, particularly in the design and classification of next-generation green tugs and harbour crafts for international use. SeaTech will spearhead the design and engineering of eco-friendly vessels that integrate advanced sustainable technologies, aiming to meet rigorous global efficiency and sustainability standards.
The designs will receive review and preliminary approval from the IRS, ensuring they comply with both local and international maritime regulations. Additionally, IRS will conduct engineering reviews to validate design adherence to its own standards and relevant international guidelines.
The MoU also paves the way for joint training initiatives aimed at bolstering maritime skills and knowledge. IRS will offer specialised plan approval training to SeaTech engineers, enhancing their technical capabilities in the field.
Moreover, this agreement establishes a framework for collaborative research and industry projects aimed at addressing critical challenges such as decarbonisation, alternative fuels, and enhancing vessel efficiency.
P K Mishra, Managing Director of IRS, emphasised the significance of this collaboration, stating that the combined expertise of SeaTech in maritime design and IRS’s technical diligence is essential for advancing eco-friendly maritime operations on a global scale.
