DP World implements green power sourcing at Nhava Sheva terminals, cutting CO2 emissions by 50 percent.
DP World has launched open access sourcing of green power at its Nhava Sheva terminals, effective July 1, 2024. This initiative at Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) and Nhava Sheva India Gateway Terminal (NSIGT) integrates remotely generated electricity into the state grid, significantly reducing conventional energy reliance.
The green power sourcing initiative, with a total capacity of 11 MW, will replace approximately 75 percent of conventional energy at NSICT and 80 percent at NSIGT. This shift is expected to cut CO2 emissions by 50 percent. Ravinder Johal, COO, Ports & Terminals, Operations and Commercial, Subcontinent, Middle East and North Africa, DP World, emphasised that this move aligns with the Government’s Maritime India Vision 2030 and underscores DP World’s commitment to sustainable practices.
The company’s green port guidelines focus on best practices, equipment electrification, and maximising clean energy use, adhering to the ‘Working with Nature’ concept to protect the harbour ecosystem. This milestone not only supports sustainable operations but also sets a benchmark for future developments.
Across India, DP World is transitioning its diesel-powered equipment to electric, having commissioned and electrified 19 Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGs) at the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) Cochin in Kerala. Globally, DP World aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
