Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) is embarking on the construction of a fifth cargo handling terminal at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. The 6,500 sq m terminal is expected to commence operations by the end of Q1 2024. This expansion aims to augment WFS’ cargo capacity and establish an extensive facility footprint of 17,000 sq m in Madrid.
The terminal, acquired by SATS in April, will offer 17 landside truck and van docks, Build-up-Pallet lanes, airside truck and dollies docks, as well as secured refrigerated cargo areas and mechanised temperature-controlled rooms. WFS will also implement AGVs and digital solutions to enhance efficiency. The facility aims to bolster service for airline customers and support the surge in inbound e-commerce from China.
