A massive blaze at Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) warehouse on Amravati Road razed construction and mining equipment, causing significant financial losses.
A devastating fire erupted at a Larsen & Toubro (L&T) warehouse located on Amravati Road, resulting in the destruction of construction and mining machinery worth crores. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, although firefighting efforts persisted late into the night to extinguish the flames engulfing the 7,000 to 8,000 sq ft unit, situated approximately 30km from the city near 14th Mile.
Initial investigations pointed to a short circuit as the primary cause of the fire, which ignited around 11:30 am. Prompt response teams, including fire tenders from Mihan, MIDC, Wadi Nagar Parishad, and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) fire department, swiftly mobilised to the scene upon receiving the alert.
Ganesh Kharatmal, Mihan’s chief fire officer (CFO), revealed that around 70-80 individuals were evacuated safely from the warehouse. The presence of construction and mining equipment, along with stored oil and grease, exacerbated the inferno, necessitating a concerted firefighting effort. Despite thick smoke billowing several feet high, no injuries were reported among the warehouse staff.
While a forensic investigation will ascertain the fire’s precise cause, authorities remain vigilant to prevent any potential foul play. Tight security measures have been implemented to maintain law and order, with a comprehensive inquiry expected to determine the incident’s root cause.
Efforts to contain the fire’s spread to neighboring units were successful, with firefighters employing water and foam to quell the flames. While preliminary assessments suggest a wire spark near the ceiling as the likely ignition source, a thorough investigation will unveil the exact circumstances leading to the blaze.
Authorities anticipate fully extinguishing the fire by Thursday morning, marking the culmination of a rigorous firefighting operation to mitigate further damage to the warehouse and adjacent units.
