Tuticorin International Container Terminal launched to boost logistics efficiency.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, dedicated the Tuticorin International Container Terminal (TICT) at VO Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) today. The terminal, with a 14.2-meter draft and a 300-meter berth, will enhance the port’s capacity and cut logistics costs, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a video message.
Built with a ₹434 crore investment, TICT can handle 600,000 TEUs annually. Sonowal flagged off the first container vessel from the terminal and launched a green hydrogen project to advance India’s renewable energy goals. Additionally, a 400 kW rooftop solar plant was inaugurated.
Operated by JM Baxi Group, TICT will eliminate transshipment delays, saving up to $200 per container and optimising annual operational costs by $4 million, per Sonowal. The port expansion marks a significant step in India’s journey to becoming a logistics and green energy hub.
