Development kicks off for Tamil Nadu’s inaugural multi-modal logistics park in Tiruvallur district, set to revolutionise freight movement with a ₹1,500 crore investment on 181 acres.
The groundwork for the state’s premier multi-modal logistics park commenced in Tiruvallur district, marked by a ₹1,500 crore investment spanning 181 acres. Implemented under the build operate transfer (BOT) model, the initial phase, focusing on road connectivity enhancements, is slated for completion within two years. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials overseeing the project affirmed plans for upgrading the existing four-lane State Highway, integrating it with the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road through a flyover.
In addition to road connectivity enhancements, the logistics park will feature rail connectivity. Authorities have initiated land acquisition procedures for the construction of a 10-km railway line, linking the park to the Kadambathur railway station, albeit with a projected completion timeline of four years.
Designed as an expansive open area sans existing structures, the logistics park aligns with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan’s vision of seamless intermodal freight movement.
Envisioned amenities encompass automated warehouses, cold storage, customs facilities, cargo terminals, and truck terminals. Anticipated cargo types span textiles, apparel, grains, electronics, consumer goods, automobiles, and automobile components, with a forecasted 7.17 million tonnes handled over 45 years.
