Tata Steel marks a historic moment as the first Indian steel company to complete a laden voyage powered by B24 biofuel.
Tata Steel achieves a significant milestone by undertaking the first full-laden voyage from East Coast Australia to India powered by B24 biofuel blend with Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO).
Departing from Gladstone port on April 17, 2024, the vessel “MV Cape XL” successfully berthed at Kalinga International Coal Terminal Paradip (KICTPPL) port on May 8, 2024, discharging 148,500 metric tons of coal.
Using B24-grade biofuel, sourced from Guangzhou, China, Tata Steel reduces carbon emissions by approximately 20 percent compared to traditional methods. Peeyush Gupta, Vice President, TQM, Group Strategic Procurement and Supply Chain, Tata Steel, emphasises the company’s commitment to sustainability, aiming to undertake more such shipments. Despite fuel availability challenges, Tata Steel collaborates with partners Cargill and Banle Energy International to execute this historic shipment.
