Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia met with airline representatives, including Vistara CEO Vinod Kannan, to discuss rising airfares and on-time performance concerns.
During the advisory group meeting, Scindia emphasised the need to control fares on specific routes and reviewed airlines’ self-monitoring mechanism for airfares. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s Tariff Monitoring Unit will regularly monitor airfares on random routes.
Additionally, Scindia instructed the Airports Authority of India to reassess technical specifications at Visual Flight Rules airports for improved punctuality. The minister urged airlines to submit plans for individual aircraft induction, focusing on point-to-point direct connectivity for tier 2 and tier 3 cities with international destinations, aiming to enhance overall aviation services in India.
