SAL Heavy Lift, in collaboration with Shanghai Salvage (China), is expanding its fleet with two state-of-the-art semi-submersible deck carriers, “Zhong Ren 121” and “Zhong Ren 122.” These long-term charters will bolster SAL Heavy Lift’s capabilities to meet the growing demands, especially in the offshore wind sector. The vessels are expected to be delivered in Shanghai between December 2023 and February 2024 and will be operated through the Jumbo-SAL-Alliance.
Dr. Martin Harren, CEO of SAL Heavy Lift, emphasised the strategic importance of this move, enabling them to provide more powerful heavy lift solutions to customers, especially in complex offshore wind projects. The vessels, measuring 169 meters in length and 39.8 meters in width, will offer enhanced cargo transportation options and expand SAL Heavy Lift’s market presence.
Following their initial deployment in cargo transports from Asia to Europe, the vessels will be utilised in an offshore wind farm project in the USA. SAL intends to extend the charter contracts for an additional two to three years, further focusing on the renewable energy sector.
