Reliance and DP World team up to shift Jamnagar refinery’s product transport from road to rail, cutting carbon emissions and boosting efficiency.
Reliance Industries has partnered with Dubai’s DP World to launch a rail logistics solution for its Jamnagar refinery, reducing reliance on road transport and enhancing sustainability.
The new rail network connects RIL’s Jamnagar refinery to DP World’s inland container depot (ICD) in Ahmedabad and further to Mundra port. Previously, each container traveled about 700 km by road in the Mundra-Jamnagar-Mundra round trip. Now, the Ahmedabad-Jamnagar-Mundra route — covering a similar distance — has been converted to rail, addressing environmental and operational challenges.
The integrated rail service can transport up to 1,260 tonnes of cargo and consolidate 45 containers in a single movement, reducing costs, improving vessel connectivity, and ensuring timely exports. Importantly, this shift eliminates over 700 km of road transport per container, aligning with Reliance’s sustainability goals and cutting carbon emissions.
This strategic collaboration marks a major step towards greener, more efficient logistics for one of the world’s largest refineries.
