One of the busiest container handler ports, Mundra, along with other Gujarat ports have been ordered to suspend their operations until further notice. “Cyclone Biparjoy” is developing into an extreme severe storm, as per reports.
Nearby box ports including Pipavav and Hazira are also facing the same difficulties and suspension alerts. The storm can cause landfall by Thursday in the region.
“All ships anchored are advised to take all necessary steps for their safety, which include steaming out to high seas. Weather forecasts for Cyclone Biparjoy predict strong winds, rain and squalls in the Gulf of Kutch.”, said Adani Ports.
In addition, APM Terminals Pipavav informs in a trade advisory, “Long and persistent swells due to Cyclone Biparjoy render difficulty in marine, quay-side and land-side operations.”
The weather will worsen as the storm will close in 36 to 48 hours. Kandla Port has also asked for evacuation of berths immediately. Apart from that, container lines have started to warn cargo delays and supply chain disruptions to customers.
