Union Minister Gadkari vows to fast-track the Krishna River bridge project, enhancing connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari pledged to accelerate the construction of the double-decker cable-stayed bridge over the Krishna River. This bridge will connect Telangana’s Somashila with Andhra Pradesh’s Sangameshwar. The commitment came during a meeting with Telangana Tourism and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao in New Delhi.
Gadkari assured Rao that all necessary procedures for the ₹1,082.56 crore project would be completed swiftly, with tenders scheduled to be released by the end of September. The bridge, delayed for two years, aims to boost environmental and temple tourism in the region.
It will also enhance commuter safety and reduce travel distance to Tirupati by up to 80 kilometers, cutting travel time by approximately 90 minutes. The bridge will span the Srisailam reservoir and Nallamala forest, linking the Lalitha Someshwara Temple in Telangana to the Sangameshwar Temple in Andhra Pradesh.
