Ministry of Ports leads tree plantations, cleanliness drives, and public participation under the Swachhata hi Seva 2024 campaign.
In support of the Government of India’s Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 campaign, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways has initiated a range of public participation and cleanliness efforts. These activities, under the theme ‘Swabhav Swachhata—Sanskaar Swachhata’, began on 16th September and will continue until 2nd October 2024.
Key campaign pillars include Swachhata Ki Bhaagidari, Sampoorna Swachhata, and Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs. A review of pending files across the Ministry is being conducted as part of the preparatory phase, which will set the stage for the campaign’s main phase from 2nd to 31st October.
Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, and Minister of State Shantanu Thakur led a plantation drive at V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Tamil Nadu. They also launched cleanliness drives at various ports to encourage a culture of cleanliness among stakeholders.
At Syamaprasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata, Thakur led the Swachhata Pledge, marking the event with tree plantations, Shramdaan activities, and the inauguration of digital initiatives like the Pension App and Circular Management Portal. Ports across India, including Vishakhapatnam and Mumbai, have actively participated in the campaign, further emphasising environmental sustainability and public involvement.
