Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, visits Atlanta Bay near Diglipur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, exploring the logistics potential of a proposed Bulk Cargo Transshipment Port.
The strategic location on the route from East & NE India to East & SE Asia positions the port as a key hub for various cargo, including coal, sand, construction materials, and iron ore to Bangladesh and Myanmar.
The proposed port is expected to reduce travel time between major ports at Andaman and Kolkata from 72 hours to 15 hours, presenting a significant logistics advantage. The feasibility study for developing Atlanta Bay as a major Harbour is in progress, emphasising the government’s commitment to catalysing development in the region.
