A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) unveils its latest warehouse in Wattala, Sri Lanka, covering an expansive 100,000 sq. ft. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of key figures including Vikash Agarwal, Managing Director of Maersk South Asia, Biju Ravi, Head of Maersk Sri Lanka, and Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake, Deputy Chairman & Managing Director of Aitken Spence PLC, alongside other industry leaders.
This new facility underscores Maersk’s dedication to providing comprehensive supply chain solutions, offering strategic advantages to global customers and local suppliers, particularly in the retail and lifestyle sector.
Strategically situated in Wattala, merely 11 km from the seaport, Maersk’s latest warehouse capitalises on Sri Lanka’s strategic geographical location, serving as a pivotal trade hub connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe.
With Sri Lanka’s burgeoning trade sector and government initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure and business facilitation, Maersk aims to fortify its presence in this dynamic market.
The warehouse, boasting 100,000 sq. ft. of space, allocates 50,000 sq. ft. each for export consolidation and third-party logistics (3PL) services. Equipped with advanced facilities, including rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, and solar module compatibility, the warehouse aligns with Maersk’s commitment to sustainable operations.
Additionally, the facility offers end-to-end supply chain solutions encompassing storage, inventory management, and distribution, catering to the needs of both global and local clientele. The inclusion of a dedicated 3PL facility streamlines cargo storage and movement, facilitating swift consolidation and transportation to the port, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.
