Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) has reported an impressive 46 percent surge in cargo traffic, attributed to a growing passenger influx. In August 2023 alone, the airport handled around 1,900 tons of goods, marking a substantial increase from the 1,300 tons transported in August 2022.
The upward trend isn’t limited to August, as cargo tonnage for the period between April and August 2023 showed a remarkable 33 percent increase, totaling 8,400 tons compared to the 6,300 tons in the same period the previous year.
CCSIA’s spokesperson highlighted the airport’s emerging status as a cargo hub, with exporters from nearby cities, including Kanpur, increasingly choosing CCSIA for their shipments. Exports mainly consist of ready-made garments, meat, fruits, and vegetables, while domestic sectors contribute to cargo growth with e-commerce, mobile phones, auto parts, and general goods. In March 2022, CCSIA inaugurated a new domestic cargo arrival facility to accommodate this rising cargo volume.
