India is planning to construct electric highways powered by solar energy to facilitate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in public transportation.
Nitin Gadkari, the Union road transport and highways minister, emphasised this initiative during an event organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce.
The project involves developing solar-powered electric highways to enable on-road charging for heavy-duty trucks and buses. India is also promoting solar and wind energy-based EV charging infrastructure and encouraging toll plazas to transition to solar energy sources.
This comprehensive approach highlights India’s commitment to advancing electric mobility, enhancing infrastructure, and promoting sustainability in the transportation sector.
