The Indian Commerce Ministry warns customs of potential dumping, re-routing via India after US tariffs on China.

The Ministry of Commerce has issued a directive to customs authorities to strengthen monitoring of imports and exports in response to growing concerns over possible dumping and re-routing of goods through India. This development follows the United States’ recent imposition of a steep 125 percent tariff on Chinese products.
Officials fear that Chinese exporters, facing limited access to the US market, may attempt to divert shipments to countries like India or use India as a transshipment hub to bypass the new American trade barriers. To counter this risk, customs officials have been instructed to watch for any unusual surges in trade volumes that might signal such activities.
In addition, line ministries and industry associations have been engaged to assess and report on any significant increases in imports that could potentially harm domestic industries. Authorities are especially focused on ensuring India does not inadvertently become a re-routing point for Chinese goods seeking alternative entry into global markets.
