APEDA facilitates India’s first GI-tagged fig juice export to Poland, highlighting innovation in agricultural exports and sustainable practices.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the export of India’s first ready-to-drink fig juice to Poland, marking a significant milestone in promoting unique Indian agro-products globally. The juice is made from GI-tagged Purandar Figs and was produced by the Purandar Highlands Farmers Producer Company Ltd. The first shipment departed on August 1, 2024, from Hamburg port in Germany, with the export flagged off by APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev.
This journey began at the SIAL 2023 trade show in Greater Noida, where the fig juice gained international attention and won an award, indicating its market potential. Since the initial export of fresh Purandar Figs to Hamburg in 2022, APEDA has provided extensive support to smallholder farmers, helping them develop and bring this innovative product to the market.
The fig juice has been granted a provisional patent and was also showcased at Macfrut 2024 in Rimini, Italy, further expanding its global visibility. A positive response at the event led to an inquiry from MG Sales SP in Wroclaw, Poland, which resulted in this landmark export.
This achievement not only underscores the value of Indian agro-products but also highlights the importance of research, development, and sustainable practices in boosting agricultural exports.
