The Ministry of Heavy Industries holds a national conference in Bengaluru to advance EV charging infrastructure rollout across states and CPSEs.

The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) organised a National Conference on “Enabling Nationwide EV Charging Infrastructure under PM E-DRIVE Scheme” in Bengaluru on May 12, 2026. Addressing the gathering, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy announced approval for Karnataka’s proposals covering 1,243 EV chargers with an outlay of Rs 123.26 crore.
Cumulatively, EV charging proposals totalling Rs 503.86 crore have been approved so far, covering the installation of 4,874 EV chargers across states and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). Approved proposals include major CPSEs such as HPCL, IOCL and BPCL, as well as states including Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The PM E-DRIVE Scheme carries a total approved outlay of Rs 10,900 crore for promoting electric mobility across multiple vehicle segments. Of this, Rs 3,679 crore has been earmarked for demand incentives covering electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, e-ambulances and e-trucks; Rs 4,391 crore for the deployment of over 14,028 electric buses; Rs 2,000 crore for EV public charging infrastructure; and Rs 780 crore for modernisation of vehicle testing agencies.
The scheme proposes to support approximately 24.79 lakh electric two-wheelers and 3.16 lakh electric three-wheelers including e-rickshaws, e-carts and L5 category vehicles. Additional Secretary, Dr Hanif Qureshi noted that coordinated efforts between the Centre, states, BHEL, Charge Point Operators and industry stakeholders would be critical for scaling a reliable charging ecosystem. MHI also runs complementary schemes including PLI Auto (Rs 25,938 crore), PLI ACC (Rs 18,100 crore), the Payment Security Mechanism (Rs 3,435 crore) and the Scheme for Rare Earth Magnets (Rs 7,280 crore).
