Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the Ambala Cantonment Domestic Airport project, set to enhance connectivity and spur economic development. The civil enclave, under the UDAN scheme, covers 20 adjacent acres.
Key officials, including Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij, Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, and Rajya Sabha MP Kartikiye Sharma, attended the stone-laying ceremony. Khattar highlighted the airport’s potential for economic growth and interstate connectivity.
The airport, complementing Chandigarh airport, utilises the Ambala Cantonment Air Force Station’s runway for commercial flights. With Ministry of Defence approval and a Rs 133 crore investment from the Haryana government, it promises to boost regional connectivity.
Deputy Chief Minister Chautala revealed plans for a passenger terminal for 200 people, to be completed in six months. The Haryana government aims to introduce flights to UDAN destinations, providing accessible air travel.
This aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of democratising air travel and boosting regional economic growth, benefiting not only Ambala but also nearby areas.
