The Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, approved the rail proposal connectivity between Delhi international airport and Maharaja Agrasen International Airport Hisar covering Bijwasan, Gurugram, Garhi Harsaru, Sultanpur, Farukhnagar, and Jhajjar. The route will carry both freight and passengers.
The feasibility report was presented in the meeting of Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HRIDC) presided over by the Chief Secretary, Sanjeev Kaushal, the Chairman of HRIDC. The project proposal will be sent for sanction to the Ministry of Railways. First, the Garhi Harsaru-Farukhnagar–Jhajjar rail link will be developed. The connectivity to Maharaja Agrasen International Airport Hisar will be taken up in the second phase.
The new rail links are expected to improve transportation efficiency, boost regional development, and promote sustainable mobility for both freight and passengers. The proposed route is 11-kilometres-long Garhi Harsaru– Farukhnagar, the existing single line, and the 24-kilometres-long Farukhnagar–Jhajjar to be developed for a double line for ₹1,225 crores.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has sanctioned a loan for ₹1,040 crores for rail infrastructure projects in Haryana. The agreement is expected to be signed shortly for this.
The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) was dispensed ₹874 crores under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for capital Investment for 2022-23 by the Union Finance Ministry. The Indian government has extended the scheme for which the proposal for 2023-24 will be sent for assistance soon.
