Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has planned to lay the foundation for shore facilities at Badarpur and Karimganj terminals on National Waterways-16 (Barak River) by May. The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) will oversee the development, focusing on improving connectivity and infrastructure along the water route.
During a meeting with the All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA), Sonowal assured delegates that the foundation stone for these facilities would be set before or after the Lok Sabha polls. The ACKHSA chief advisor, Rupam Nandi Purkayasthya, disclosed that a seven-member team presented two demands to Sonowal.
These include the establishment of cargo terminals in Karimganj and Badarpur, crucial for regional development, and the creation of a government homeopathic college in Cachar under the Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy ministry. The fulfillment of these demands is anticipated to contribute to the overall progress and well-being of the region.
