DHL Freight takes a significant step towards carbon-free road freight transport with the deployment of fully electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 tractor-trailers.
DHL Freight marked a major move towards carbon-neutral road freight transport by introducing fully electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 tractor-trailers. These trucks are now operational at DHL Freight’s Koblenz and Hagen sites in Germany, facilitating delivery and distribution transport.
DHL Freight’s initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in delivery and distribution transport, aligning with the company’s sustainability strategy and bolstering its commitment to environmental responsibility. The introduction of the eActros 300 trucks marks a milestone in DHL Freight’s efforts to transition towards a more sustainable fleet.
The eActros 300 tractor-trailers, powered by two electric engines with a peak output of up to 400 kW, offer a range of approximately 220 kilometers. Charging infrastructure allows the battery to be recharged from 20 percent to 80 percent in about one hour and 15 minutes, making them suitable for regional distribution transport.
Dr. Thomas Vogel, CEO DACH, UK & IE DHL Freight, highlights the partnership with Mercedes-Benz Trucks as a significant move towards achieving sustainability targets. Oliver Berger, network strategy and sustainability manager at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, underscores the role of eActros 300 in making local road freight transport carbon-free.
DHL Freight continues to explore and implement various technological solutions to drive sustainable road freight transport, including hydrogen trucks and electric vehicles. The goal is not only to identify the most suitable engine mix but also to lead the industry towards a greener future.
