Uttarakhand’s export growth potential was highlighted at the industry meet, with MoUs signed to strengthen agriculture and processed food sectors.
The Department of Commerce, Government of India, hosted an Industry Interaction Meet in Dehradun to expand Uttarakhand’s export potential. Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal led the event, which brought together government officials, industry leaders, and policymakers to boost the state’s competitiveness across multiple sectors.
The meeting focused on unlocking opportunities in Uttarakhand’s agribusiness and processed food sectors, emphasising the state’s agro-climatic advantages. Discussions centred on strategic policies, infrastructure development, and aligning efforts to elevate export growth in sectors like organic agriculture, horticulture, processed foods, and traditional handicrafts.
Key MoUs were signed, including between the House of Himalayas and Lulu Group for exporting high-quality products from the region and with the Indian Institute of Packaging and the Spices Board to enhance packaging and promote indigenous spices. The State Horticulture Mission and Spices Board also signed an MoU to cultivate spices like large cardamom.
APEDA introduced a certification of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for over 350 farmers, enabling them to export products like mangoes and vegetables to Europe and the UK. The meet also showcased various products from 25 organisations.
The event builds on earlier initiatives to position Uttarakhand as a leader in India’s organic exports, reflecting the state’s growing importance in global markets. Senior government officials, industry leaders, and experts from key sectors participated, reinforcing efforts to develop a thriving export ecosystem in the state.
