DPA joins the Methanol Institute to advance bio-methanol and green fuel shipping goals.

In a major step towards maritime sustainability, the Methanol Institute (MI) has announced Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) as its newest member. This move positions DPA at the forefront of global efforts to adopt methanol as a marine fuel.
As one of India’s busiest ports, handling over 140 million tonnes of cargo annually, DPA aims to play a pivotal role in supporting bio-methanol adoption and influencing policy and best practices for sustainable shipping.
“We are delighted to welcome Deendayal Port Authority. Ports like DPA are essential in promoting low-carbon fuel transitions,” stated Greg Dolan, CEO, Methanol Institute.
Strategically located on the Rotterdam-Singapore Green Shipping Corridor, DPA is working to become a zero-emission fuel bunkering hub. Current green initiatives include:
- Launching a 1MW green hydrogen demo plant
- Deploying battery, fuel cell, and hybrid tugboats
- Introducing energy-efficient cargo handling technologies
- Establishing a Centre of Excellence for Green Maritime Fuels to drive innovation and collaboration.
DPA’s commitment reflects India’s maritime decarbonisation strategy aligned with the IMO’s net-zero goal by 2050 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“As India embraces Green Shipping Corridors, DPA is ready to supply cleaner fuels for a sustainable maritime future,” affirmed Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman, DPA.
