Commerce ministry, Indian missions from 20 countries to discuss export strategies and challenges at a three-day event.
Senior officials from the commerce ministry and commercial wings of Indian Missions from 20 countries began a three-day meeting to strategise export promotion for key goods and services. The event includes discussions on non-tariff barriers, logistics, WTO issues, and market access initiatives.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will address the gathering, focusing on six priority sectors and export strategies for nations like the US, UK, France, China, and Japan. These 20 countries represent a significant share of India’s export market.
The ministry plans to enhance exports of engineering goods, electronics, and other categories to offset challenges from shrinking global demand. Officials, including Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal and DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia, emphasised collaborative efforts to address trade barriers and boost exports.
India’s trade deficit reached $37.84 billion in November due to rising imports, with the fiscal-year trade gap widening to $202.42 billion.
