Chennai Port opens Jolarpet goods shed, enhancing sustainability and trade.
Chennai Port Authority has unveiled a state-of-the-art railway goods shed at Jolarpet Railway Station to improve logistics efficiency and promote sustainable practices. Developed at a cost of ₹6.71 crore in collaboration with Southern Railway, the project reduces traffic congestion in Chennai and fosters green logistics through seamless container movement.
As part of this initiative, the “TVS Go Green Express” container train was launched in partnership with Indian Railways and Container Corporation (CONCOR). Marking a significant milestone in eco-friendly transportation, the train carried 29 FEUs (58 TEUs) of auto goods, each weighing 20 MT, to Ennore Port Rail Siding. The shipment, destined for African countries, strengthens connections between Chennai Ports and regions like Bangalore, Mysore, and Northern Tamil Nadu.
This multi-modal logistics approach, integrating rail and road, enhances trade efficiency by minimising bottlenecks and providing cost-effective solutions. These efforts underscore Chennai Port Authority’s commitment to innovation, environmental responsibility, and regional economic growth.
