NICDP industrial corridors to enhance logistics, optimise cargo movement, and boost EXIM efficiency across India.
The government is developing industrial corridor projects as part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) for the development of greenfield industrial areas, regions, and nodes to compete with the world’s top manufacturing and investment destinations, stated Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada.
These projects aim to streamline logistics by integrating industrial hubs with key transportation networks, ensuring efficient cargo movement, and reducing costs for both domestic and international trade.
For example, in Maharashtra, the Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA) and Dighi Port Industrial Area (DPIA) are being developed under NICDP. These areas will leverage proximity to ports and freight corridors to facilitate faster movement of goods and improve EXIM connectivity.
Similarly, the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), conceptualised on the backbone of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), is designed to optimise logistics operations by connecting industrial zones with rail freight systems. Projects such as IMC Agra and IMC Prayagraj have been approved by the government, further enhancing cargo flow along this corridor.
The NICDP also supports modernised logistics infrastructure, such as at the SBIA, where Rs. 3000 crore has been allocated for trunk infrastructure development, enabling seamless movement of goods and reducing bottlenecks in supply chains.
Additionally, the development of the Mega Leather Footwear and Accessories Cluster at Ratwad Village, Maharashtra, with a project cost of Rs. 256.42 crore, will benefit from improved logistics networks to ensure efficient distribution to domestic and global markets.
By integrating these industrial corridors with advanced rail, road, and port infrastructure, the government is creating a robust logistics ecosystem. This will not only boost India’s manufacturing and export capabilities but also position the country as a competitive hub for global trade.
