Bangalore Airport, in partnership with Menzies Aviation, has launched India’s largest domestic cargo terminal with advanced tech.

Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR Airport) has inaugurated India’s largest greenfield Domestic Cargo Terminal (DCT) in collaboration with Menzies Aviation. Spanning 245,000 square feet, the facility is designed to enhance cargo handling efficiency, streamline operations, and support growing domestic trade.
Situated on a seven-acre site, the terminal has a peak handling capacity of 360,000 metric tons, expandable to 400,000 metric tons. It features 42 truck docks, over 400 specialized cargo bins, X-ray-integrated conveyors, and self-service kiosks for agents. Equipped with real-time shipment tracking, automated data capture, and QR-enabled communication systems, the terminal aims to reduce turnaround times and enhance operational efficiency.
BLR Airport, a key hub for perishables, will further expand its capabilities with dedicated storage for valuables, live animals, hazardous materials, and radioactive cargo. Built with sustainability at its core, the facility incorporates skylighting, energy-efficient infrastructure, and water conservation measures, aligning with Indian Green Building Council standards.
Satyaki Raghunath, COO of Bangalore International Airport, highlighted the significance of this development, stating, “This new domestic cargo terminal is a testament to our commitment to sustainable growth. By integrating eco-friendly practices with cutting-edge technology, we aim to create a facility that not only meets the increasing demand for cargo but also sets new standards for operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.”
With air cargo demand expected to surge, BLR Airport’s latest expansion sets new benchmarks in efficiency, sustainability, and innovation for India’s logistics sector.
