15,000 kg GI-tagged Dalle Chilly exported, enhancing farmer incomes in Sikkim.
India has achieved a significant milestone with the first export of GI-tagged Dalle Chilly from Sikkim to the Solomon Islands, facilitated by APEDA under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. This move strengthens India’s global presence in organic agriculture while opening new markets for the North East’s unique produce.
Dalle Chilly, known for its fiery heat and vibrant red color, is prized for its culinary and medicinal applications. Mevedir, an agri-export enterprise, sourced around 15,000 kg of fresh Dalle Chilly from South Sikkim farmers, ensuring them premium rates of ₹250-300 per kg — a notable increase from the usual ₹180-200.
Processed at an APEDA-funded Integrated Pack House in Sikkim, the shipment included 9,000 kg of dehydrated chillies and 6,000 kg preserved for future exports. This achievement highlights India’s commitment to promoting organic farming, boosting farmer incomes, and enhancing Sikkim’s position on the global spice map.
