Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the Srimantapur Integrated Land Port (ICP) in Tripura’s Sepahijala district. Having previously inaugurated the ICP in 2016, Sitharaman expressed her satisfaction with its use for both trade and passenger purposes. During her visit, she also inspected the jetty constructed on the banks of the Gomati river. In addition, the minister held a meeting with customs and land ports authority officials to explore opportunities to boost trade and business.
Plans for constructing a permanent jetty on the river Gomati were discussed to enhance inland water connectivity from Sonamura to Daudkandi in Bangladesh. The proposed 94-km waterway requires dredging to allow seamless vessel movement, further fostering bilateral trade opportunities.
