APEDA facilitates the first-ever air shipment of one metric tonne of Neelam and Totapuri mangoes from Kolar district, Karnataka to the Maldives, delivering over 50% higher returns to farmers compared to conventional market channels.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, facilitated the first-ever air shipment of Neelam and Totapuri mangoes from Karnataka to the Maldives, flagged off on July 30, 2026. The one-metric-tonne consignment was sourced from farmers associated with M/s Prakruthimaya Farmers Producer Company Ltd., KGF Taluk, Kolar district, Karnataka, and exported by Mrs. Ashwini A, Director of M/s Ahalya Devi Ventures, a newly registered woman entrepreneur and exporter. The flag-off was conducted by APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev, who noted that the initiative enhances market access for Indian mangoes, creates new export opportunities for late-season varieties and contributes to sustainable income growth for farmers. Neelam mango is appreciated for its sweet, juicy pulp, rich aroma and suitability for desserts, smoothies and beverages, while Totapuri mango is known for its distinctive shape, sweet-tangy flavour and versatility for both fresh consumption and processing. Both varieties are harvested from late June to the end of July, enabling India’s mango export season to be extended beyond the peak harvest period.
Farmers associated with the Farmer Producer Company realised over 50% higher returns compared to conventional market channels through the export initiative. The shipment is expected to encourage greater participation of Farmer Producer Organisations, Farmer Producer Companies, exporters and agri-entrepreneurs in tapping international markets for Karnataka’s premium horticultural produce. APEDA continues to work with state governments, exporters and farmer collectives to strengthen export infrastructure, facilitate global market access and promote India’s premium fruits in international markets.
