The government has approved four new multi-tracking rail projects spanning 18 districts to boost connectivity and efficiency.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved four major multi-tracking projects worth ₹24,634 crore under the Ministry of Railways. The projects, scheduled for completion by 2030-31, will extend the railway network by approximately 894 km across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh.
The approved routes include Wardha–Bhusawal (314 km), Gondia–Dongargarh (84 km), Vadodara–Ratlam (259 km), and Itarsi–Bhopal–Bina (237 km). Together, these projects will enhance connectivity across 18 districts, benefiting around 3,633 villages and two aspirational districts, Vidisha and Rajnandgaon.
Designed under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the projects aim to improve multi-modal connectivity, ease freight movement, and reduce congestion on key corridors. The expansion will also facilitate the transport of coal, steel, cement, and other commodities, with an additional freight potential of 78 million tonnes annually.
The initiative aligns with India’s climate goals by reducing oil imports and CO₂ emissions, promoting sustainable and efficient rail logistics.
