Over 2,000 Surat businessmen unite under ‘Progressive Alliance’ to back PM Modi’s push for Swadeshi and economic growth.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a ‘Vocal for Local’ movement struck a chord with the business community in Surat, drawing over 2,000 entrepreneurs from across sectors under the banner of the ‘Progressive Alliance’. Their shared mission: strengthen Swadeshi products and help India rise to become the world’s third-largest economy.
The event unfolded against the backdrop of US tariff concerns, with business leaders discussing how the move could impact MSMEs and export-driven industries. PM Modi urged citizens to see Swadeshi as anything “made with the sweat and effort of an Indian” and to commit to supporting homegrown products.
Kamal Diora, who led the event, said, “PM Modi’s Swadeshi resolution will give us new strength amidst the US tariffs.” Echoing this sentiment, diamond trader Ashish Sukhadia noted, “We’re already the 4th largest GDP globally. With Vocal for Local, we can overcome challenges together.” Textile businessman Amit Koladiya added, “We discussed ways to create and manufacture new products within India.”
The gathering wasn’t just a meeting; it was a show of resolve. By prioritising Indian-made goods and fostering strong business networks, Surat’s entrepreneurs hope to fuel domestic manufacturing, generate jobs, and contribute to India’s march towards global economic leadership.
