Union Minister discusses digitalisation, green shipping, and global partnerships at SMW.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal participated in Singapore Maritime Week (SMW), engaging with global leaders to shape a sustainable maritime future.
Sonowal emphasised India’s commitment to digitalisation and future-ready shipping, highlighting initiatives like ONOP, NLP (Marine), and MAITRI, which streamline port services and enable real-time data access. He also discussed creating Virtual Trade Corridors with the UAE and Singapore to enhance cargo movement.
In bilateral meetings with key Singapore ministers, including Lee Hsien Loong and Murali Pillai, Sonowal underscored India’s efforts to strengthen maritime connectivity and supply chains. He detailed India’s focus on securing trade routes through projects like IMEEC and the Eastern Maritime Corridor, backed by a $20 billion investment.
India’s maritime ambitions aim to grow its global cargo share to 15% by 2047, with green initiatives like Hydrogen Hub Ports and the India-Singapore Green and Digital Corridor leading the path toward a sustainable maritime ecosystem.
