Bharat Container Shipping Line to challenge foreign dominance in EXIM trade.
India is set to launch its first national container shipping line as the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) finalise a partnership. This move aims to reduce India’s reliance on foreign carriers, which handle 99% of the country’s export-import (EXIM) container trade.
The new line, Bharat Container Shipping Line, will leverage SCI’s expertise in chartering vessels while CONCOR provides containers and inland logistics support. The plan also involves other state-owned entities like India Ports Global (IPGL) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority to enhance infrastructure.
KPMG has been appointed to devise a market entry strategy, covering fleet acquisition, route planning, and risk management. With a vast logistics network, CONCOR is poised to play a crucial role in this ambitious venture, marking India’s bold step into global container shipping.
