India’s tobacco exports are projected to grow over 8 percent in 2024, surpassing ₹13,000 crore, boosting foreign exchange earnings.
India’s tobacco exports are set to reach over ₹13,000 crore in 2024, marking an 8 percent growth from last year’s ₹12,005.89 crore, according to government sources. The country, the second-largest producer of tobacco globally, continues to maintain a strong position in international markets.
India’s tobacco exports contribute significantly to foreign exchange earnings, with a substantial rise in farmer income over the last five years. The Tobacco Board, which oversees the sector, has introduced measures to enhance the quality of tobacco and assist around 80,000-85,000 registered farmers.
These efforts are particularly focused in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, the nation’s leading tobacco-producing states. India also produced around 300 million kilograms of tobacco last year, and the government has set a regulated target of 270 million kilograms to ensure sustainable production. The Tobacco Board operates numerous auction platforms to ensure the quality of exports.
