Fort Diamant’s maiden call at NSFT marks a milestone in sustainable shipping and India’s trade growth with Asia.
CMA CGM’s LNG-powered vessel, Fort Diamant, made its first call at Nhava Sheva Freeport Terminal (NSFT) on December 16, advancing the Group’s commitment to eco-friendly maritime transport. The 7,300 TEU-capacity vessel is the third in a series of four LNG-powered ships, equipped with 1,400 reefer plugs, serving the Asia Subcontinent (AS1) service. This service connects ports in Asia and India, including Shanghai, Nhava Sheva, and Mundra, supporting India’s Asia trade, which accounts for 44 percent of its total imports.
CMA CGM has allocated $18 billion to build a greener fleet, ordering 131 LNG and methanol-powered vessels by 2028, capable of running on biogas and synthetic fuels. Atit Mahajan, Managing Director of CMA CGM Agency India, emphasised the vessel’s role in sustainable and efficient shipping. Anirudhha Lele, CEO of NSFT, praised the terminal’s readiness to handle advanced ships, highlighting its alignment with green shipping goals and reduced emissions.
