Union Minister Sonowal reviews key logistics projects at Pandu Port, enhancing cargo, tourism, and regional connectivity.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, inspected the progress of key infrastructure projects at Assam’s Pandu Port Complex, including the Northeast’s first ship repair facility and an elevated road corridor for improved connectivity. The ₹208 crore repair facility is expected to reduce shipping costs by providing regional maintenance support, while the elevated road to NH27, valued at ₹180 crore, will enhance last-mile access, expediting cargo movement.
Sonowal also discussed developments on the Brahmaputra River, where projects worth ₹645 crore are underway, including new passenger terminals and tourist jetties. Highlighting the Brahmaputra’s role in regional commerce, he confirmed the government’s push for rapid completion of the Majuli Bridge, which aims to bolster connectivity further.
“These efforts align with PM Modi’s vision for the Northeast as a logistics hub,” Sonowal stated, adding that the Pandu projects signify a transformative approach for Assam’s economic and logistical landscape.
