Emirates orders five Boeing 777 freighters, boosting cargo fleet to 21 by 2026.
Emirates SkyCargo has announced the addition of five Boeing 777 freighters to its all-cargo fleet, building on its existing order of nine of the same model. This expansion will bring its freighter fleet to 21 Boeing 777Fs by the end of 2026, enhancing its capacity to meet the growing demand for air cargo services. The airline, headquartered in Dubai, currently operates 11 freighters and has plans to convert 10 Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft into freighters.
The decision comes amid rising global cargo demand and the expansion of Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport, which aims to handle 12 million tonnes of freight annually. Emirates SkyCargo has also begun discussions with Boeing and Airbus for its future freighter fleet, considering models like the Boeing 777-8F and Airbus A350F.
Chairman and CEO Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum stated that the booming demand for Emirates’ air cargo services highlights Dubai’s status as a leading global logistics hub.
