Maruti Suzuki India has reached a milestone of two million vehicle dispatches using Indian Railways.
Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) has reached a significant milestone, surpassing two million cumulative vehicle dispatches via Indian Railways. This achievement makes Maruti Suzuki the first automobile company in India to reach this eco-friendly milestone, according to an official press release.
“Maruti Suzuki pioneered the use of railways for vehicle dispatches over a decade ago, becoming the first company in India to obtain the Automobile-Freight-Train-Operator licence,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India. Since then, the company has steadily increased its use of railways for vehicle transport.
Through these green logistics efforts, Maruti Suzuki has reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 10,000 metric tonnes and saved around 270 million litres of fuel. With plans to double production capacity to four million units by FY2030-31, the company aims to increase railway dispatches to 35 percent over the next seven to eight years, supporting India’s net zero emissions target by 2070.
From FY2014-15 to FY2023-24, vehicle dispatches via railways rose from 65,700 units to 447,750 units. Currently, Maruti Suzuki serves over 450 cities across 20 destinations using railways.
