Nitin Gadkari announces a slew of infrastructure projects for Odisha, including a new airport in Paradip and major road developments.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, unveiled a series of infrastructure projects for Odisha during an election meeting in Krushnaprasad, Puri district. Among the significant announcements, Gadkari revealed plans to establish an INR 200 crore airport in Paradip and kickstart the construction of the 111-km 6-lane Bhubaneswar ring road, with an estimated cost of INR 6,500 crore, in October.
Addressing the transportation challenges in the region, Gadkari emphasised the need for improved connectivity between Gopalpur and Satpada due to the presence of Chilika Lake and wetlands. He assured the construction of a road linking NH-516 A and NH-316 A, aiming to alleviate the dependency on boats for transportation. Additionally, plans for a road from Tangi to Digha were pledged.
While urging support for BJP candidates in the upcoming elections, Gadkari stressed the importance of coastal infrastructure for Odisha’s economic development. He pledged projects to enhance fishery production and enable local fishermen to increase their earnings. The proposed Bhubaneswar ring road aims to reduce commute times for residents of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Khurda.
Furthermore, Gadkari disclosed plans to commence construction on a 35-km four-lane Greenfield ring road in Sambalpur, costing INR 1,333 crore, in October. This initiative is expected to address traffic congestion issues between Rourkela and Cuttack, further enhancing connectivity and facilitating economic growth in the region.
