Lufthansa Cargo opens doors on Supply Chain Day, offering insights into its operations at Frankfurt hub.
On April 18, Lufthansa Cargo welcomed interested parties to its Frankfurt hub, inviting them for an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse into its operations as part of Supply Chain Day. Frankfurt Airport, a pivotal hub in Europe, handles a substantial 20,000 tonnes of cargo per week. Emphasising the importance of digitalization and innovation in meeting evolving industry demands, Lufthansa Cargo underscores its commitment to facilitating global trade.
Thomas Rohrmeier, Head of Handling Frankfurt at Lufthansa Cargo, highlights the significance of stable supply chains amidst global tensions and changing customer needs. The airline invests approximately €500 million in modernization efforts in Cargo City North, aiming to enhance handling efficiency and service quality. These initiatives reinforce Lufthansa Cargo’s dedication to the Frankfurt location and its role as a business hub.
In line with its sustainability goals, Lufthansa Cargo is determined to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. By 2030, the company targets a 50 percent reduction in net CO2 emissions compared to 2019 levels, utilising strategies encompassing both reduction and compensation. Notably, the airline is actively adopting sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, alongside implementing AeroSHARK technology to enhance fuel efficiency in its freighter fleet.
