Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri unveiled a revolutionary pilot technology project in Pune, converting alcohol into jet fuel. The initiative at Praj Udyog Group’s research and development department in Pirangut Industrial Estate marks a significant stride in producing sustainable biological aviation fuel (SAF).
Praj President Pramod Chaudhary, alongside officials from Indian Oil and other oil companies, witnessed the inauguration. Minister Puri acknowledged the global demand for bioaviation fuel and the associated challenge of securing raw materials.
He expressed confidence in India’s potential as a major contributor to the global biofuel landscape. Commending Praj Udyog Group’s engineers for leading the project ahead of Brazil, Puri foresees its pioneering impact on a global scale.
Post-inauguration, Minister Puri and officials inspected the project, expressing satisfaction with its state-of-the-art technology. Last year’s successful Pune to Delhi flight, fueled by bioaviation alcohol-derived fuel, showcased the project’s practical application.
With enormous future potential, the biofuel industry could necessitate at least 14 crore liters annually if just one percent of India’s aviation fuel incorporates sustainable bioaviation fuel, emphasising its substantial impact on the aviation sector.
