Ministry of Railways’ Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) will run from Ludhiana to Sonnagar. Of the 1337 km stretch, 861 km has been completed. The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) will run between Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT) and Dadri, a stretch of 1506 km, of which 863 km has been completed.
The new corridors will promote the development of new industrial hubs and townships. The Industrial Corridor Corporation (NICDC), a division of the Ministry of Commerce, is implementing projects like the New Freight Terminals, Multimodal Logistics Parks, and Inland Container Depots along the corridors to develop Integrated Industrial Townships. These will benefit the logistics industry by creating direct and indirect employment opportunities. The corridor is expected to strengthen connectivity between Delhi, Mumbai, and Howrah.
