In a groundbreaking revelation, T. K. Manoj Kumar, Chairman of the Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA), unveiled plans for the introduction of non-agricultural warehouses during the PHDCCI Warehousing Logistics Show 2024 in New Delhi.
Addressing the inaugural session of the PHDCCI Warehousing Logistics Show 2024, T. K. Manoj Kumar, Chairman of WDRA, commended the government’s logistical efforts, particularly the logistics policy, for catalysing sector growth and creating business opportunities. Emphasising the crucial role of the warehousing sector within logistics, Kumar announced WDRA’s strategic initiative to introduce non-agricultural warehouses.
Highlighting the sector’s progress, Kumar noted a significant increase in registered warehouses and loading activities, with the number of warehouses surging from approximately 1800 in 2021 to around 5500 presently.
Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, Executive Director of PHDCCI, underscored the vital importance of the logistics and warehousing sector in India’s economy. He discussed the impact of the pandemic on supply chains, emphasising the need for a robust logistics infrastructure. Dr. Mehta acknowledged government initiatives like the Gati Shakti Mission, aiming to streamline logistics operations and enhance coordination across ministries.
Pawan Jain, Chair of the Logistics Committee at PHDCCI, highlighted the focus on Integrated Logistics, Automation, and Infrastructure as transformative pillars in the industry. In a rapidly evolving landscape, the integration of logistics operations, automation, and infrastructure development are crucial for success.
Ravinder Sethi, Co-Chair of the Logistics Committee at PHDCCI, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the pivotal role played by the logistics sector globally during the pandemic, especially in the movement of vaccines.
